Internet Advancement Enhancements

Internet Advancement, the online service for units submitting youth member advancement, has been enhanced with important new features. Among these are the following:

Youth Protection Training (YPT) completed date −  the last YPT completed date from the person record, if any, is displayed on the Unit Roster report. The course code is included based on the unit program type.

View Previous Advancement Reports − this new feature provides access to the List of Reports Submitted for the unit. No longer will a unit have only one opportunity to get the advancement report online or be required to contact the council to obtain a prior report that was submitted.

Academic and Sports Belt Loops − Cub Scout packs may enter and submit the dates on which Belt Loops have been earned by pack members. This feature is available by Multiple Person Entry and individual entry.

Tiger Cub rank − Cub Scout packs may enter completion of the Tiger Cub rank for members who earned the award as a Tiger Cub but did not have it entered in their records.

Purchasing Advancement Badges

The council recently published a reminder about the policy regarding purchasing advancement badges from the Scout Shops. In summary, the policy is:

An advancement report needs to be submitted showing the names of the Scouts that have earned the awards (rank badges, merit badges, Webelos activity pins, etc.)

This information is used to update the individual Scouts advancement records.

If someone needs extra patches for a second uniform, they would fill out an advancement form and indicate that these are “duplicate” badges.

This has been a national policy for at least 3 years, but our council has not been enforcing the policy on a consistent basis. Beginning on January 1, 2011, no awards will be sold without an advancement report.

Life to Eagle Process

The Crossroads of America Council advancement committee has created a Life to Eagle Scout website as a resource for Eagle Scout candidates, their families, and Scout leaders.  The purpose of this information and the recent policy clarifications is to ensure that all Life Scouts that desire to become Eagle Scouts are aware of the procedure to do so and ensure that this is the same across the council.

Information will be updated as needed to ensure that the national and council policies are implemented fully and fairly in each district. Click here to go to the Life to Eagle page on the council website.
