Mission and Vision of the Boy Scouts of America

The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is one of the largest youth organizations in the Uniteds States, with over four million youth members in its age-related divisions. Since its founding in 1910 as part of the international Scout Movement, more than 110 million Americans have been members of the BSA.

The BSA seeks to train youth in responsible citizenship, character development, and self-reliance through participation in a wide range of outdoor activities, educational programs, and, at older age levels, career-oriented programs in partnership with community organizations. For younger members, the Scout method is used to teach typical Scouting values such as honesty, good citizenship, and outdoor skills, through a variety of activities such as camping, aquatics and hiking.

Mission

"The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law."

Vision

"The Boy Scouts of America will prepare every eligible youth in America to become a responsible, participating citizen and leader who is guided by the Scout Oath and Law."

Scout Oath

On my honor I will do my best
to do my duty to God and my country
and to obey the Scout Law;
to help other people at all times;
to keep myself physically strong,
mentally awake, and morally straight.

Scout Law

A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.

Programs for Youth 7-20 Years Old

Cub Scouts

Cub Scouting is a year-round family-friendly program designed for boys who are in the first through fifth grade (ages 7-10). Activities are used to achieve the aims of Scouting - citizenship training, character development, and personal fitness.

Many of the activities happen right in the den and pack. The most important events are the weekly den meetings and the monthly pack meetings.

Boy Scouts

Boy Scouting is a program for boys 11 through 17, and is designed to achieve the aims of Scouting through a vigorous outdoor program and peer group leadership with the counsel of an adult Scoutmaster.

Boy Scout troops participant in weekend camp outs, week-long summer camps and high adventure trips. Boy Scouts develop leadership skills while planning these outings and doing community service projects.

Venturing

Venturing is the youth development program for young men and women, between the ages of 14 and 20 (having completed the eighth grade). Its purpose is to provide positive experiences to help youth mature and to prepare them to become responsible adults. Sea Scouting is the nautical-oriented option within Venturing.

Find a Progam in Your Area and Join Now

There is a misperception that youth can only join during the fall as school begins. This is not the case. Youth can join one of our programs at anytime.

Uniform and Registration Assistance

One of scouting's methods of youth development includes wearing a uniform. The Scout uniform makes Scouting visible as a force for good, signifies the Scout's commitment to Scouting ideals and serves as an economic equalizer of all boys.

All of our boys have an opportunity to be in full uniform, through the Uniform Assistance Program that is sponsored by the Lilly Endowment Fund. If an active youth is in need, it only takes a short, simple application and $15.00 for a complete shirt, neckerchief, slide and patches appropriate to the program.

For more information call (765) 644-6687 and ask for an application for the Uniform Assistance Program. Once the application is complete, you may take it to any Scout Service Center and pick up the uniform. You will have to apply the patches yourself.

This program will allow us to make sure all of our youth are equally uniformed!
